Gdynia marine guide

Gdynia - the sailing capital of Poland.

Gdynia fully deserves to be called the capital of Poland. Each year many events like European or World championships in Olimpic classes are held here. This is owed to the exellent conditions - in terms of the wind and the infrastructure.Gdynia Sailing Days, organised since 2000, have become a regular item in the schedule of evants, attracting top international contenders. The regatta has been growing in the Baltic. The base for all yachting events is the marina in Gdynia - the largest and most up-to-date in Poland. Its location in city centre, giving it a unique atmosphere, is one of its main assets. From early Spring to late Autumn it is full of yachts of all sorts; from the most magnificent luxory vessels to quite small, yet charming and stately. Its capacity - now 260 boats - will have doubled by 2012, making it one of the laegest yacht harbors in this part of Europe. Many yacht clubs, training future champions from their young years are located around the marina. The pride of the harbour is the "Dar Pomorza" - a tall ship of refinded contour - once a training vessel for generations of seamen, today a museum ship. gdynia is also the home port for other tall ships Dar Młodzieży, Pogoria, Iskra and Zawisza Czarny, still used for the training of successive generations of Gdynia's renowened maritime universities.
